Alderman - 3rd Ward
An Illinois native, Jeanie grew up in Altamont, a small town of 2,500 people in central Illinois, where she learned the value of communities living, striving, and thriving together. In 1999, Jeanie moved to the Chicagoland area to attend seminary, and spent ten years serving congregations south of I-80 until she made the move to Berwyn in 2011 with her wife, Julie, and their daughter Madelyn.
In 2011, Julie became the Pastor at Unity Lutheran Church in Berwyn, and the family moved to Berwyn in December of that year. Jeanie is ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is a rostered leader in the Chicago Metropolitan Synod, and supply preaches in the area. For the past eight years, she has worked as a Clinical Pastoral Educator and Hospital Chaplain. Jeanie has spent her career listening and connecting to people while also connecting them to resources and opportunity—this above all else has trained her for public service. Jeanie serves on the Property Committee at Unity Lutheran Church. She volunteers with Housing Forward/PADS shelter, which provides emergency shelter for those experiencing homelessness. This work has put a human face on an impersonal political issue and has reinforced her conviction that building a strong community is vital to our life together.
