Chris Hurst is running to fight for Southwest Virginia families across the 12th District, against a rightwing NRA-backed Republican. Prior to this campaign for delegate, he was evening anchor of WDBJ7 for six years, he was recognized as “Media Person of the Year” by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, “Citizen of the Year” by the Roanoke NAACP, and “Your Local Hero” by the readers of the Roanoker magazine.

His decision to run for office is a progression from his journalism and advocacy after he recovered from profound tragedy. In 2015, he was just beginning a new life with his late-girlfriend, Alison Parker. Alison and Adam Ward’s murder on television shocked the country and sent Hurst on a different path, working to make legislative change on the issues he used to cover. He is running for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, because whether its to advocate for affordable health care access, to push to fund quality public schools, to create commonsense solutions to end gun violence, or to protect Virginia’s environment from intrusive pipelines, coal ash, and pollution, Hurst is ready to stand up for the families of Southwest Virginia.
