Dutchess County Legislature, District 14
Francena Amparo, the new Assistant Minority leader in the Dutchess County Legislature, is passionate about helping others and a fierce champion of equality. She was raised in the Bronx and in 2006, she purchased her home in Wappingers Falls, a community she is proud to represent.
Francena has built a career in the legal field and is currently employed by Kaplan Fox and Kilsheimer in New York City, where she assists in trial and deposition preparation, as well as marketing and financial management.
Francena admits to being interested in politics at a young age and later, in how government can be harnessed to remove barriers to improve the lives of the human race. Eight years ago, after the loss of her younger brother to suicide, she made a commitment to get more involved in the political process. His death confirmed to her that the systems in place to help people were failing.
Today, Legislator Amparo remains committed to improving governmental programs and working to better her constituents’ lives through direct outreach, education and advocacy. She is President of the Board of Managers where she resides and is a member of various local, state and national organizations. Some include the New York Democratic Lawyers Council; the National Association of Latino Elected Officials; Local Progress; the LGBTQ Center; the NAACP; and the Wappingers Historical Society. Francena’s work with residents of her district include health and wellness fairs, blood drives, and school supplies drives.
